In some situations, it's a good idea to capture your desktop and save it as an image file. For example, you have encountered an error in a specific application and you want to inform the producer about it, so he can fix the error in the future versions of the application. Or you want to save a text message displayed by an application, so that you can read it later on. Unfortunately, the capturing tool which comes with Windows is not so reliable and it's difficult to use.

This is why it's a good idea to install an additional application for capturing the desktop. You could use SnapShot, a Windows capturing utility which allows you to take screenshots of your desktop in several ways and save them as graphical files in no time.

After installing the application, the user will first need to configure it. For this, he will need to access the Preferences window and configure an image editor which will be used together with SnapShot. Thus, he will be able to send a screenshot directly to that editor without having to save it first. The user can also configure SnapShot to automatically save captured screenshots as regular image files, in a specific location. Besides that, one can set up a delay to run before actually capturing the desktop. Thus, he will have time to launch the desired application and capture its interface.

The desktop can be captured in several ways, either in full screen, active window or region. Each capturing task can be launched either from the program's top menu or by using customized shortcut keys. After the desktop has been captured, the screenshot can be either sent to an image editor, as an email attachment or uploaded to a FTP server.

Pros

It allows you to capture the desktop in several ways and automatically save the screenshot as an image file. Besides that, screenshots can be directly imported in image editors. Furthermore, captured images can be sent through email or uploaded to a FTP server.

Cons

The area which can be captured in the manual mode can only be rectangular. Using SnapShot, you can easily capture your desktop and save it as an image file.
